Moderator's Visit and the rest of the busy week...
Thanks to all who provided food for many things last week: the funeral, the
Proclamation project on Wednesday and for the Moderator's service on Friday
night in Clarenville.
Today, Sunday, April 6, the Right Reverend Dr. Marion Pardy is guest preacher at Wesley
United Church. The service will be broadcast on VOWR.

Naomi Centre and Emmanuel House
As a congregation, we have been sending personal care items to Emmanuel
House and Naomi Centre for a number of years. Our next "care package" will
be prepared and sent in time for Easter. Thanks for help of any kind.

How Much Should I Keep?
Being aware of God's ownership can free us from a possessive and anxious
spirit. Rather than "How much of my money should I give to God?", we learn to ask,
"How much of God's money should I keep for myself?"
- Richard Foster

Pennies for Mission
Sunday School is gathering pennies for Mission Outreach.

"There can be no beauty if it is paid for by human injustice, nor truth that passes over injustice in silence, nor moral virtue that condones it. - Tadeusz Borowski

We cannot live for ourselves alone...
Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads...and along these
sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results.
- Herman Melville

Golf Tournament:
Get out your Orange Golfing Duds!!
This year's Golf fun will take place on July 12th.
Lots of ways to support this manse fundraiser:
- Golf!
- Sponsor a golfer.
- Tell someone else who likes to golf.
Good prizes, but even better Fun!

I Never Knew That...
At one time, the fashion in Eastern Europe was to build pulpits in the shape of an upright whale. The preacher had to enter the interior of the pulpit at the base, climb a ladder through the belly and then come into the open mouth and preach.

Prayer for the World offered by Moderator, the Rev. Dr. Marion Pardy:
Creator God, gentle in power and strong in tenderness: kindle, we pray, in
the hearts of all people your passion for peace and your will for justice.
Heeding your call to be peace-makers, we pray for non-violent solutions to
the crisis in Iraq. Believing in your love for the world and in our shared
global humanity, we pray for compassion towards innocent people who suffer
the most in war. Transform the minds and hearts of those in authority in all
nations toward a commitment to peace with justice and wisdom. Transform all
of us that we may rid ourselves of vengeful notions and pursue the path of
non- violent action. So, may your name be glorified and your will be done
through peace on earth. In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

News from India
The father of Deacon Margaret (Masih) writes to say that she has a baby
daughter and is posted in a rural area as an associate, about 50km from
Amritsar where she was raised. (Margaret was an international intern with
Heritage United Church in the Fall of 1999.)

Genealogical Inquiries

Especially during the summer, visitors come to research their family trees; but the Internet makes year-round "visiting" possible.  Interested family historians should know that Heritage United Church (the former Musgravetown Methodist Circuit) has birth/baptism, marriage and burial records dating from 1871.  Data for people who were resident here before 1871 can generally be found in Bonavista and Greenspond registers or from the Provincial Archives in the Colonial Building, St. John's.

A RESPONSIVE PRAYER
Based on The Mary Stewart Collect

We would aspire to generosity
Keep us, O Lord, from pettiness.
Let us be large in thought, word, and deed.
We would aspire to right thinking.
Let us be done with fault-finding
and leave off self-seeking.
We would aspire to honesty.
May we put away all pretense
and meet each other face to face,
without self-pity and without prejudice.
We would aspire to patience
May we never be hasty in judgment
and always generous.
We would aspire to serenity
Let us take time for all things.
Make us grow calm, serene, and gentle.
We would aspire to courage
Teach us to put into action our better impulses,
straightforward and unafraid.
We would aspire to unity
Grant that we may realize
that it is the little things that create differences,
that in the big things of life we are one.
We would aspire to kindness
And may we strive to touch and know
the great human heart common to us all,
Amen.
